To finish with this evaluation, we are going to put in practice carnival. Keeping in mind that kids like a lot carnival we think they are going to have an excellent time. Our carnival is about circus, because the last week we worked on transport and animals vocabulary. We are going to do some activities, make our costumes, learn a dance....
Firstly, we are going to make our costumes, for example, about tigers, elephants, clowns and magicians.
When we finished with the costumes, we are going to listen to a song and learn it. Then, when the song is learned we are going to practice the. The first part of dance is make a train parade with the kids.
14th of february is St. Valentine and as kids have esteem to their parents, they would express their love. Keeping in mind that in two weeks is St. Valentine, we will start with a story about it.
St. Valentine and the Butterflies
Many many years ago, in old Rome there was a king named Claudius. Claudius was a very cruel king. He did not like to see people happy and was always starting wars with other countries.
In the same city, there lived a kind priest named Valentine. He loved all things and was often seen out in his gardens, tending the plants and enjoying the butterflies that fluttered about the pretty petals of the flowers. Father Valentine made sure to take very good care of his garden, for he knew that the butterflies needed the flowers in order to live.
Another thing that made Father Valentine very happy was to see young people in love. Love was the best thing that could happen to two people, and when couples came to him and asked him to marry them, it was a time for great festivities.
Now, Claudius did not like to see people get married, for that meant that when a war came, his soldiers did not want to leave their wives and children. Young soldiers did not want to leave their sweethearts. So the king, being the cruel man that he was, banned all marriages and made it illegal for anyone to become engaged.
Father Valentine was very upset at this, and he performed weddings in secrecy. Young couples in love would sneak through his garden, past the lovely flowers and butterflies and in through the back door where they would be married.
Eventually, Claudius heard that Father Valentine was still performing marriages and ordered his guards to go and arrest the priest. The good Father was taken and thrown into the dungeon!
While he was in the dungeon, Father Valentine learned that the jail-keepers daughter was blind and sent for her. He touched her brow and she was immediately granted her sight. It was a miracle!
When the cruel King Claudius, learned of this miracle, he thought it was witchcraft and immediately ordered that Father Valentine's head be chopped off!
On the morning of the execution, February 14, of the year 270, the priest sent a letter to the jail-keepers daughter, whom he had fallen in love with. He signed the letter "From your Valentine". That is why we sign our Valentine's Day cards the way we do today.
As Father Valentine was being buried after the exectution, a huge swarm of red and white butterflies appeared and circled over the people at his funeral. They fluttered here and there, and eventually landed upon Father Valentine's coffin. The people looked at the pattern that the butterflies had made when they landed and saw that it was shaped like a big heart. And that is why we use the heart as a symbol of love today.
After telling them the story, and having an idea about San Valentin, we will teach them a song that we will be singing during these two weeks.
As you now, the last week we learned different foods, and now it is time to learn a new unit; numbers. As usual, we are going to learn this unit with songs, story, and different activities. In this unit we choose two songs, these are the songs that we have chosen.
As we have chosen two songs in this unit, the story is shorter than usual. Little Polar Bears
One day, two little polar bears were sitting on three pieces of ice. Four little seals were sleeping on five pieces of ice. Six little penguins were swimming in the ocean. Seven little fish were swimming in the ocean too. Eight birds were flying in the sky. Nine big whales were swimming in the ocean. They all played for ten minutes.
To practice the fine psychomotricity and cognitive motor, we have chosen this activities.
Connect the fingers with the numbers. They have to connect the finger pictures with the dot pictures.
Place the correct quantity of cubes on each number carpet.
Connect the quantity with each number. They have to connect the correct picture with each number.
Keeping in
mind that the kids are learning to eat and they are in a period that they don’t
want to try new foods, we prepare some activities to motivate kids to try all types of food.
We choose this song to say to kids that the vegetables are healthy for them.
Ellie and Josh Brown were eight-year-old twins. They were great friends. They did everything together.
One sunny Sunday afternoon while Ellie and Josh were playing on the living room floor, Ellie said, “Hey, Josh, let’s ask mom if we can have a picnic in the park today.”
“Sounds great to me,” smiled Josh. “I love to go on picnics. I love to go to the park. And I love to eat.”
“Okay, I’ll ask mom,” said Ellie.
Ellie ran into the kitchen where her mom was busy cooking. Mrs. Brown turned at the sound of Ellie’s footsteps, smiled, and said, “Hello, Sweetie. What are you and your brother up to today?”
Ellie went to her mom, gave her a big hug, and said, “Mom, Josh and I were wondering if we could go to the park for a picnic.”
Mrs. Brown smiled at Ellie and said in a gentle voice, “I’m sorry, Sweetie. Your grandparents are coming to dinner, and I’m busy cooking a special dinner for them.”
Ellie said sadly, “Oh, that’s okay, mom. I’ll go tell Josh.”
Ellie then walked into the living room and said to her brother, “Sorry, Josh, we can’t go to the park for a picnic. Mom is busy cooking dinner for Grammy and Pop-Pop.”
Five minutes later, Mrs. Brown came into the living room. She placed a large red blanket on the floor by the window, smiled at Ellie and Josh, and said, “How about having a special ‘inside the house on a blanket by a sunny window picnic’?”
“Wow! Great idea, Mom!” said the twins.
“Then let’s make some healthy picnic foods,” smiled Mom.
JOSH AND ELLIE’S HEALTHY PICNIC FOODS
1 turkey & tomato sandwich
1 chicken & lettuce sandwich
6 carrot sticks
2 apples
2 bottles of water
Also we choose different activities to learn fruits and vegetables.
Fruit and vegetables basket: We put different slices of fruit/vegetables and whole fruits/vegetables. We put the basket in the middle of the class and we let them experience with the fruit and vegetables. With this activity the kids can experiment with the five senses.
Coloring food: As we learnt colors and in the last unit, they see fruits and vegetables colors, now they will paint some food pictures.
Kids like a lot playing with animals, for example, with dogs, cats, or riding a horse. The kids that live in a farm know some animals (pigs, horse, rabbit, cow, chicken...) and the kids that live in the city others (cat, dog, turtles, birds..)
In our class we have kids from both places. So we will be learning the most popular animals. To know them, we are going to do differents activities, read a book and listen to a song.
Firstly, the story we are going to read about animal will be this one:
POOH GOES VISITING
Pooh always liked a little something at eleven o'clock in the morning, and he was very glad to see Rabbit getting out the plates and mugs; and when Rabbit said, 'Honey or condensed milk with your bread?' he was so excited that he said, 'Both' and then, so as not to seem greedy, he added, 'But don't bother about the bread, please.'
And for a long time after that he said nothing...until at last, humming to himself in a rather sticky voice, he got up, shook Rabbit lovingly by the paw, and said that he must be going on. 'Must you?' said Rabbit politely. 'Well,' said Pooh, 'I could stay a little longer if it-if you-' and he tried very hard to look in the direction of the larder. 'As a matter of fact,' said Rabbit, 'I was going out myself directly.' 'Oh well, then, I'll be going on. Goodbye.' 'Well goodbye, if you're sure you won't have any more.' 'Is there any more?' asked Pooh quickly. Rabbit took the covers of the dishes, and said 'No, there wasn't.' 'I thought not,' said Pooh, nodding to himself. 'Well Good-bye, I must be going on.'
So he started to climb out of the hole. He pulled with his front paws, and pushed with his back paws, and in a little while his nose was in the open again ... and then his ears ... and then his front paws ... and then his shoulders ... and then-'Oh, help!' said Pooh, 'I'd better go back,' 'Oh bother!' said Pooh, 'I shall have to go on.' 'I can't do either!' said Pooh, 'Oh help and bother!' ...
...Christopher Robin nodded. 'Then there's only one thing to be done,' he said. 'We shall have to wait for you to get thin again.' 'How long does getting thin take?' asked Pooh anxiously. 'About a week I should think.' 'But I can't stay here for a week!' 'You can stay here all right, silly old Bear. It's getting you out which is so difficult.' 'We'll read to you,' said Rabbit cheerfully. 'And I hope it won't snow,' he added. 'And I say, old fellow, you're taking up a good deal of room in my house - do you mind if I use your back legs as a towel-horse? Because, I mean, there they are - doing nothing - and it would be very convenient just to hang the towels on them. 'A Week!' said Pooh gloomily. 'What about meals?' 'I'm afraid no meals,' said Christopher Robin,
'because of getting thin quicker. But we will read to you.' Bear began to sigh, and then found he couldn't because he was so tightly stuck; and a tear rolled down his eye, as he said: 'Then would you read a Sustaining Book, such as would help and comfort a Wedged Bear in Great Tightness?' So for a week Christopher Robin read that sort of book at the North end of Pooh, and Rabbit hung his washing on the South end... and in between Bear felt himself getting slenderer and slenderer. And at the end of the week Christopher Robin said,
'Now!'
So he took hold of Pooh's front paws and Rabbit took hold of Christopher Robin, and all Rabbit's friends and relations took hold of Rabbit, and they all pulled together ... And for a long time Pooh only said 'Ow!' ... And 'Oh!' ... And then, all of a sudden he said 'Pop!' just if a cork were coming out of a bottle. And Christopher Robin and Rabbit and all relations went head-over-heels backwards ...and on top of them came Winnie-the-Pooh free! So with a nod of thanks to his friends, he went on with his walk through the forest, humming proudly to himself. But Christopher Robin looked after him lovingly, and said to himself 'Silly Old Bear!'
The song that we are going to learn is:
The dog goes woof woof woof woof the cow goes moo moo moo moo the duck goes quack quack quack quack and the owl says to whit to whoooo the cat goes meow meow meow meow the bird goes tweet tweet tweet tweet the pig goes oink oink oink oink and the little mouse says squeak squeak squeak, (squeak, squeak, squeak) these are the sounds that animals make these are the sounds that animals make the horse goes neigh neigh neigh the sheep goes baa baa baa baa the rabbit goes thump thump thump and the people they say bla bla bla bla bla the snake goes hiss hiss hiss the chicken goes cluck cluck cluck cluck the frog goes ribbit ribbit ribbit the bees say buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz these are the sounds that animals make these are the sounds that animals make the donkey goes haw hee haw hee haw the elephant goes pawoooo the bear growls grrr grrr the lion roars raaaar these are the sounds that animals make these are the sounds that animals make these are the sounds that animals make these are the sounds that animals make
The activities that we are going to do are:
Mask: This activity is very simple. We will bring to the kids the mask already cut and then they will paint it however they want. To finish the activity, we will put in the mask an elastic band.
Puzzle: With this activity they will work the fine psychomotricity because they have to take the pieces and put it in the correct hole.
Couples: In next activity, the kids have to connect the color animal with their shadows.
Body parts: Previously we learned the humans body parts, so to put it in practice, we are going to do this activity, but now with animals. They have to connect the body part with the related animal.
It was nearly Christmas. Katie woke up and found that the world was white and magical.
- Snow, she shouted, snow for Christmas.
She ran outside and danced in the snow. Her brother Eddie came out too.
They made a big round snowball and a small one. They put them together and made a huge snowman. On Christmas Eve they looked at the snowman. He waved at them. He was alive!
Hello, he said, it’s Christmas. Would you like a present?
Yes please! The snowman waved his arms. Silver crystal snowflakes filled the sky. It was so beautiful.
We must give you a present too, said Katie. They gave the snowman a carrot for a nose, a scarf for his neck, and a hat for his head.
Happy Christmas! they said.
The snow stopped and the sun came out. The snowman started to melt.
Goodbye, he said. Build me again next year!
ACTIVITIES
Keeping in mind that the children like christmas a lot, they are going to do these activities:
Doing ornaments:
